Let's talk Mountain Ranches:This great mountain ranch located in Lincoln County, New Mexico at the village site of Arabela (east) contains approximately 13,125 +/- deeded acres along with 1040 NM State Lease acres and 720 BLM acres for estimate of 14,896 total acres. The PACHECO RANCH is located 17 miles north of Tinnie on State Road 368 in townships 8 & 9 south- Range 18 & 19 east. The Pacheco Ranch has been in the family since the late 1800 and is presently owned in fee simple interest in the names of The Leopaldo Pacheco children and grandchildren. All of which have joined in this expressed interest to sell the ranch as one unit.
The Pacheco Ranch as presented has been leased out for the last 22 years or so to a neighboring ranch company for livestock grazing. The ranch as a grazing unit has also engaged in the leasing out its Mule Deer hunting habit acreage to a local game outfitter, all hunting rights on The Pacheco Ranch are subject to NM Fish and Game Department Rules and Regulations for unit 37. Unit 37, which is located along the south face of the Capitan Mountain and then due south toward the Hondo River has just recently started issuing Elk Permits for private Big Game Hunting Ranches on deeded acre ownerships. The Arabela area and all along the south range of the Capitan Mt. has long been acknowledged as being some of the better Big Game habit areas for Elk, Mule Deer, Black Bear, Mountain Lion and Barbary Sheep in southeastern New Mexico.
The Pacheco Ranch as a livestock ranch is located in a grazing range site area that is rated at 45—50 acres for each animal unit or 13 animal units per section yearlong. The subject ranch lies in the foothills of the Capitan Mountains and just below the blunt East Face of the 10,000 ft Capitan Peak. The ranch boundary is considered L-Shape in design with as many 11 pastures and several holding traps. The headquarters complex is located at the village site of Arabela right on the pavement with the main livestock working pens being constructed at the Pacheco Lake Site. The pasture design is watered by windmills and storage tanks with pipe lines, and several large surface tanks and natural lakes that affords good utilization of a grazing patterns between the livestock waterings.
New Mexico State University publishes the following data for the Arabela area of Lincoln County
The annual average precipitation for this area ranges from 12 to 16 inches a year, about 90% of this annual precipitation occurs between April 1 and October 1, with July, August and September having the highest monthly averages. Most of the area rainfall occurs with summer thunderstorms of high intensity and short duration. The frost-free season ranges from 175 to 185 days. (Growing season) Summers are characterized by warm days and cool nights with daytime temperatures occasionally reaching into the 90's. Winters are characterized by warm, sunny days and cold nights. Occasional storms may result in below freezing weather for a period of 2 or 3 days, but temperatures of zero degrees Fahrenheit or lower have only occurred in one or two days in both January and February. Winter storms in January and February can produce snowstorms with accumulation up to 8 inches, however this ranch is considered being on the south slope of the Capitan Mts. And snow melting is more rapid always on a southern exposure.

The Pacheco Ranch is located about 60 miles west of Roswell where the majority of the trading for goods and services takes place. Two US Highways US 70 / 380 and US 285 north to south service Roswell. Roswell a city of 45,000 is a full service city and is now supported by Air Travel with American Eagle, a non-stop jet flight to Dallas. 35 miles west of the Pacheco Ranch is a Four Season Recreation Development Center. Noted for its Olympic designed winter sports and outstanding summer recreational offerings such as fishing, hiking and horse back riding. The Ruidoso Complex is suited for family recreation winter or summer and now is offering three great golf courses for public use. Starting in May of each year to the fall is the Horse Racing Season with both Quarter and Thoroughbred Horse Racing taking place at The All American Tract. The County seat for Lincoln Co. is located at Carrizozo 55 miles west on US 380.
